Blog & Photos - July 2010

st July -  Took the train from Southampton to Plymouth to stay with Helen.

nd - 7th July - Spent the week in Plymouth - did a lot of walking and met up with one of Matt's Exxon colleagues - Bob and his wife Sue. Helen and I did a 'bit' of shopping for our wedding outfits - got our hair cut and nails done in preparation for the big day.  At the weekend Helen took us on a 'short' walk.  We caught the ferry across the river Tamar into Cornwall and walked through the Mount Edgecombe estate to Cawsand. A lovely walk with stunning views - lunch was a 'real' Cornish pasty at the beach!  The sea temperature was slightly different from the Caribbean but there were quite a few brave souls swimming!

th July - Back to Southampton with Helen to stay with Matthew and Jo.

th July - Up to Cambridge and helped with last minute preparations.

th July - the 'big' day - fabulous weather - hot and sunny but with a slight breeze.  Well what can I say - a fairytale weekend.  Jo and Matthew had worked so hard over the last year and put in so much thought and effort into the preparation - but it was well worth it.  The whole celebration was held at Matthew's old college - Sidney Sussex - a beautiful setting.  Most guests were also staying in rooms at the college so there was no need to go off the site at all!  The Chaplain gave a very meaningful service with quite a bit of humour and audience participation.  After the signing of the registar we went out into Cloister Court for a champagne reception, photographs and lawn games - a string quartet set a lovely background to the afternoon.  The wedding breakfast was held in the dining hall with much fun and frivolity.  Friends had come from far and near to help celebrate with Jo and Matthew - one Cambridge buddy flew from Australia for the weekend - another from New York and 2 more from Switzerland!  The guest list consisted mainly of university and sailing friends and a few family - a perfect combination.  The evening continued in the back lawns and marquee with a band and DJ.  A truly memorable day.

th July - After a hearty breakfast, we spent the morning punting on the river - seeing some of the beautiful college buildings before heading back to Southampton.

th - 13th July - Stayed in Gosport with friends David & Sue before heading back to Grenada on the 14th.

th - 31st July - back to reality - on the hard in Grenada working on the boat!
